End of 2019 Art Show Update
over 4 years ago – Sat, Dec 28, 2019 at 03:53:46 PM

Thank you all so much for your support of an idea we've all had, we just needed to all bind together to make it a reality. 2017 felt like a hot minute ago, yet it is utterly incredible how much we have grown since then. Here is a little update on our ongoing progress, and a preview of what is to come.

In September 2018 - we handled the original art show portion of the 25th Anniversary Exhibition in Tokyo, with over 12,000 visitors in less than a week. It was kind of a big deal:

Spring 2019 - the Ravnica Concept Art Show pilot was tested at Lodestone Games in Minnetonka, MN. We wanted to see how a local shop could handle having Magic art displayed, and the logistical issues of having valuable cards on the wall. No issues of theft happened, and players liked having the actual art next to them instead of posters.

In October 2019 - Illuxcon, the traditional painting convention in Reading, PA, had Whimsy, Wonder and War: A Magic Art Show to a massive success. The show was spearheaded by Donny Caltrider, a writer for Hipsters of the Coast. This was a gallery show, with art for sale on site, with all sales going directly to the artist. We were able to exhibit more than 70 magic art pieces, including from Alpha, and artists were able to exhibit work beyond what could fit in their booth space.

And happening right now, until January 11, the Magic Art Show group organized Story & Craft – A Magic: The Gathering Exhibition in conjunction with the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD). With help from alumni Jeff Miracola, Alayna Danner, and current instructor and Magic artist John Matson, the show focuses on midwest artists and the process of creating card art. You can see Magic Art from sketch to final, concept art and even process videos. It is free to the public in the Brooks Stevens Gallery on 273 E. Erie Street in Milwaukee.

With 2020 in our sites, we are looking internationally again. We have ambitions of having an art show in every country that has a language Magic is printed in. The plan would be to rotate every few years. We hope we can tell you more about that by end of Q1.

Thank you for your all your words of encouragement, and if you're in the Midwest, sneak up to Milwaukee for an art show!

The video editing is done and the Curator Tour Video is now ready to be shared with you, our generous Backers.

Follow along with Mike Linnemann as he walks you through the show.

Starting in Amonkhet, then going through Innistrad, Ravnica, and finally Mirrodin, Mike points out some of the amazing artwork on display and gives you a few tidbits of extra flavor that you wouldn't find anywhere else.

Please enjoy the video and stay tuned for future updates.

Thanks from the Magic Art Show Team,

GP Vegas Magic Art Show Tour with Ethan Fleischer
over 6 years ago – Wed, Jul 26, 2017 at 07:15:47 PM

Work continues on the Walk Through video.  To tide you over while you wait, we wanted to share a little something with you.

Here is the video of the talk given by Magic designer Ethan Flesicher during opening night!

We are really proud of how it came out and happy that all of you will now be able to share in the experience with this video.

Once the editing work is complete on the walk through, we will be sharing that with all Backers in the future, so stay tuned for more updates from the team.

Thanks for your support,

The Magic Art Show Team

Feedback Survey & Shipping Update
almost 7 years ago – Tue, Jun 27, 2017 at 08:23:43 PM

Thanks to your support, the Magic Art Show at GP Vegas was a resounding success!

We are working on the videos and a write up for all of our Backers, but before we move on to anything else in this Update, we want to thank each and every one of you for making this event possible.

Mike will be writing an article for Gathering Magic with a brief run down of the goings on and, as a bonus, we will be sharing with you the video of Wizard of the Coast's designer  Ethan Fleischer's opening night walk through.

Feedback Needed

While I know many of your were unable to make it to GP Vegas for the Art Show, we would appreciate everyone that was able to complete the Feedback Survey.

This survey is one of our tools to convince Channel Fireball, Wizards of the Coast and other organizers of the need for future Magic Art Shows. We were able to get over 400 surveys completed in Vegas, though 500 would be ideal to make our case.

Take the Survey Now

If you saw the show, but don't remember completing a survey, please complete one ASAP.

Shipping Update

Now that we have everything in hand, and have recovered from the insanity of GP Vegas, we are getting ready to ship out all remaining Rewards.

The labels are being printed as we speak and we plan to have all Rewards out the door on Friday.  Once everything is dropped off at the Post Office, we will be updating the status of all surveys.

Rewards should arrive within 3-5 days of shipping for US orders and 2-3 weeks for International.

If you do not receive your rewards within one month of Friday, please contact us.

We still have Tokens, Playmats, and Pins available through the Pre-Order store and all proceeds go to fund future Magic art shows.

Thanks for making the Magic Art Show possible, you made it possible.

Magic Art Show Team,

Mike, Rico, Josh, and Brian
